Comments: My son, who is a second year Mite defenseman and a solid skater, puts about 10 hours a week
on these skates. These are his second pair as he outgrows them quickly, but are a great price
point for what you get. The steel keeps a good edge and the increased runner height (over
the x2) allows for tighter turns. The last remained stiff for over a year until he needed the
next size up. While there are mixed reports of heat molding these, every pair of his skates
have been molded with reasonable results (one boot required molding twice).
We may upgrade to the X4.0 next year for an outer that is more water resistant, as after a
couple of hours of play, the boot tends to be soaked with water/ice. He is also getting big
enough where he might appreciate the increased stiffness of the higher end skates, though to
be honest I really don't think stiffness matters for younger players, both because of their
lighter weight but also because smaller feet/legs just can't apply as much leverage to the
skate to make it flex.
