In regards to hockey sticks, “lie” is the angle between the shaft and blade. Everyone has a slightly different playing style and stance, so the ideal lie may be a little different for everyone. The lower the lie number the greater the angle is between the shaft and blade, and the further the puck will be from the player. The higher the lie number the smaller the angle is and the closer the puck will be to the player.
