The best fitting pant I will never wear :(

I bought this pant online because no other refs in my area have it, and no stores stock it yet. I've skated in Stevens for years, but my last pair had an unfortunate encounter with the washing machine and it didn't survive.

I will start by saying that this pant fit me great. It has elastic around the waist and fits snug around the hips. It opens up a bit as it goes down to the ankles, but nowhere near as much as the Stevens or Reeq pants do, while still fitting looser than the PGs or Combats.

There is no calf padding or tail bone padding either, both of which I also count as good things because I take those off my Stevens anyway.

At first take, I loved the way the pant fit. Unfortunately, there are some major drawbacks to it once I had them on. First and foremost, and I don't know how else to describe it, but the black pants are shiny. No other word for it. It's a shiny black. A few of the refs in the locker made a comment "are you going to a disco?" or "Nice pants, one step closer to becoming John Travolta"... I don't know why they look this way, but shiny is the only word to describe it. Glittery...Sparkly....Seriously, they're one step away from having sequins sewn on being used as a figure skating outfit.

Secondly, and again I couldn't believe this until I had them on, but they're translucent... you can see through them. They fit so that they covered most of the top of my skate, and I could see my white laces through the pant! Unless you are wearing pure black unders, everyone from every angle can see what you're wearing underneath the pant! And while there is some temptation to throw on a neon green jock and go skate around for a while, that experiment isn't worth $125 to me.

This is a great design by Bauer, but miserably failed in the execution with the material they used. Unfortunately, I have to return mine because I have no desire to be known as "The disco referee".
