CCM JetSpeed FT2 Stick

Pre-Sale starts 6/28 and Launches 7/26

By Chase | May 2019

Launching on July 26th, the CCM JetSpeed FT2 Stick looks to build on the massive success its predecessor achieved in a short time. Veering away from the RBZ Line that was focused on power, JetSpeed is all about versatility and control, which was the main focus for CCM's product developers this year. Compared to the original JetSpeed, this FT2 is lighter, better balanced and provides better feel throughout. Let's find out how they were able to accomplish this below!

HYBRID KICK POINT

The CCM JetSpeed Stick Line bridges the gap between the quick-releasing RibCor Line and the ultimate power Super Tacks Line. This means JetSpeed is all about versatility and control, which is a great fit for most modern shooting and playing styles.

The JetSpeed FT2's Hybrid Kick Point allows it to deliver a quick shot release (like a low kick stick) and devastating shot power (like a mid kick stick). Depending on where the shooter's lower hand sits as they take a shot, the FT2 will react differently.

For a big slap shot or one-timer, the hand is placed lower and the stick responds by maximizing energy loading for maximum shot power. When a player needs to get the puck off of the blade as soon as possible, their bottom hand tends to sit higher on the stick, the FT2 then prioritizes speeding up the shot release by making the stick flex lower towards the blade.

JETFUEL 80 BLADE

In case you didn't already know, the JetSpeed Stick Line took over the RBZ Line in 2018. RBZ has been one of the most unique stick lines from any major stick manufacturer because their blades were hollow unlike the traditional foam-filled blade construction. Since CCM Hockey and TaylorMade Golf were both owned by Adidas at the time, CCM recruited TaylorMade's engineers to help them create this radically different approach to hockey sticks.

The result was the SpeedBlade whos results exceeded expectations and proved a hollow blade core was not just a gimmick. Now for the first time in 7 years, CCM is back to using foam inside of their JetSpeed/RBZ stick line. In the previous JetSpeed Stick, the blade core was still hollow but included a dampening layer on the face for better puck feel without sacrificing pop.

CCM JetFuel 80 (JF80) Blade

CCM shifted this dampening layer from the face to the once-hollow channels inside of the core. JetSpeed loyalists, do not fret quite yet, because CCM was able to keep the JetSpeed's signature stiffness profile but enhanced its responsiveness and feel.

The other significant advantage the JetFuel 80 blade gave the FT2 is the reduction of weight and an improved balance point. The original JetSpeed weighed around 425g (in senior 85 flex) while today's FT2 stick weighs 410g (in senior 85 flex). With the majority of weight be removed from the blade, this forces the balance point higher and makes it feel like it's even lighter than it actually is.

CONSTRUCTION & MATERIALS

While we may not see a big change from the previous generation here, it is worth noting it is still one of the best on the market today. Over the past few seasons, CCM has made serious strides to elevate their sticks to the very top by changing the way they build them and the materials they use.

CCM partnered with Sigmatex, an industry-leading carbon fiber supplier in 2017 and is a driving factor as to why CCM is on top of the stick game today. This premium 18K carbon fiber has made CCM sticks lighter, more durable and more consistent from the top down.

CCM X-Flow Technology - JetSpeed FT2 Stick

CCM's X-Flow Technology

The JetSpeed FT2 Stick pairs this with their fairly new X-Flow Technology, which is the final piece of the puzzle when it comes to building a hockey stick. This advanced molding process is much more precise than in year's past. This creates consistency and better durability by eliminating excess resin and voids that can occur during the molding process.
